Assessment Methods

Selected Response

Selected responses are very familiar. The answer(s) are predetermined. Learners simply select the correct response for a given question. The most common example is a multiple choice question. Selected responses work well for many knowledge objectives.

Constructed Response

Constructed responses are constructed (written) by students. Common examples are short answers or essays.

For example, students research and select an article on a topic and summarize their findings, compare/contrast with another resource, begin an annotated bib.
