There’s a lot of research to support the notion that students will perform better when they believe that they are capable of achieving the goals their working toward. Instructors play an important role in reinforcing those beliefs. Even small acts can reinforce a student’s belief in their abilities. Consider incorporating into your feedback, statements reinforcing your belief in the student’s ability.
This isn’t sandwich feedback. This is a way of communicating to students that you sincerely believe they can accomplish the work you’ve given them, that they can make use of your feedback to continuously improve their skills, and that they are capable of succeeding in the course.
